Helping the Needy

Darul Arqam MSA During the Can Food Drive

Over 925 million people go hungry every single day. Living a hard life daily with an empty stomach takes a lot of struggling and patience. Yet the worst part is the amount of waste people contribute towards the environment when we throw our food away without a second thought. No one stops to think about all the hungry and poor families who don’t have enough nutrition. On the month of December 2012, our MSA held a can food drive to help the people in need. We told every single class from kindergarten to the seniors to the teachers to bring as much can foods they would be able to bring. Alhamdulillah, all our students and teachers contributed towards the drive and we ended up collecting over five thousand pounds of cans towards the cause. During the drive, the Houston Food Bank sent people to inform us of the hunger that takes place every day and how much feeding even one person could make a difference. They talked about how many people they feed every single day and how grateful they are to have us lend a hand. We were really proud of our students and staff!

Patience and Perseverance

As Muslims, we shouldn’t let our emotions get the better of us. It’s tough for us young Muslims to look at the tragedies that befall us in our everyday lives and not feel hopeless and despair. But as being good believers, we should be patient and

Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri: Some Ansari persons asked for (something) from Allah's Apostle (p.b.u.h) and he gave them. They again asked him for (something) and he again gave them. And then they asked him and he gave them again till all that was with him finished. And then he said "If I had anything. I would not keep it away from you. (Remember) Whoever abstains from asking others, Allah will make him contented, and whoever tries to make himself self-sufficient, Allah will make him self-sufficient. And whoever remains patient, Allah will make him patient. Nobody can be given a blessing better and greater than patience."
